Most people start a pregnancy blog somewhere around the beginning of the process. You know, a little bit after peeing on a stick and seeing those 2 pink lines. I’m not most people. Then again, I have a feeling most pregnancy blogs are written by women. Being a guy, I tend to lag. So welcome to my blog, started at the half-way point of pregnancy… Week 20 (and 1 day).
The first half of pregnancy is surreal experience from a guy’s point of view. You see the pregnancy test, go the doctor appointments and everything, but it feels abstract for a time. The Pregnant One’s belly has been growing larger (and cuter) by the day it seems and she’s been happily enjoying the little kicks and flutters of our little guy. What I get to do on my end is do my best to make sure she’s comfortable, happy, and well fed.
Even finding out a week and a half ago that we are having a boy only nudged me towards reality a slight bit. Who knows what that’s all about. Things changed a little bit on Friday night though. We were laying in bed together and I reached around, lightly patted her belly and said “good night” to our little one. A moment later, he said hello to me for the first time!
There have been quite a number of “whoa” inducing moments in the last 20 weeks… that one took the cake. Feeling my baby kick through my wife’s tummy for the first time? Wow. Sure he was probably telling me to get off his lawn, but hey, I’ll take it.
Just wait until you can actually see the kicks. Now that is trippy.
