Baby likes to dance

A short one today…

Through pure chance, and a well positioned subwoofer at our computer desk, we discovered that our little guy likes music. Or at least it seems to get him pretty active. It seemed pretty consistent with what we’ve read about what sounds he can actually hear at this point in the womb. So far we’ve managed to get the most activity out of him with drum & bass/garage down-tempo type music, and I think one or two trip-hop songs. During the carpool into work yesterday, it was Nirvana and Pearl Jam. I’m not sure how I feel about him jamming to my high-school soundtrack. It just dawned on me recently that he’s essentially going to be referring to that as “classic rock”.

We had our 20 week (and 4 day) appointment this morning along with a follow-up ultrasound (check out the picture) as the little monster was being less that cooperative last week. Everything is progressing well, and The Pregnant One’s doctor seems pleased with the process so far. We’ve now been tasked with choosing a pediatrician and starting to look at scheduling our birthing classes (that start in 10 weeks or so). She’s also cleared us for travel in April, so our quick trip to the Buckeye state is totally on.

I’ll try to get to that promised PUPPP post at some point. Probably tomorrow.

  1. Keep in mind that the movement could signal a like OR dislike. For instance, in utero Caitlin kicked the hell outta me whenever we were checking for her heartbeat (ultrasound waves). And don’t forget the Chipmunk experience I had. I still don’t know if that was love or hate.

  2. I know. He did a pretty good job of letting us know where we could stick the whole ultrasound process the other day.

It’s just fun to think that he’s kicking away in there cause he digs the music. The other option is that it was his first exposure to hearing music/bass and he wasn’t so sure about it. I’m hoping for the former. :)

  3. I’ve no doubt he digs music, most babies do. I was just noting that perhaps he wasn’t enjoying Pearl Jam… or so I can only hope :-P

Lately our 5am feeding is followed by Rockabye Baby lullabies, namely Coldplay, U2 and the Cure as they put her right back to sleep.
